The Swiss Alpine Club and its sections operate 152 huts with some 9200 beds in the Swiss Alps.
In a unique mountain setting, the huts offer basic, comfortable accommodation for mountaineers, climbers, walkers, families and nature enthusiasts. A visit to an SAC hut is an unforgettable mountain-experience, and gives visitors the opportunity to come directly into contact with nature and the local environment and culture. We hope you have an enjoyable and eventful stay!
All huts are open year-round (every hut has a winter room). About two thirds are permanently or partly manned in the winter and summer seasons, which means basic meals and drinks are available. In any case, it is advisable to makes enquiries about the opening and manning times for each hut, since these can change depending on the weather.
Please book your accommodation with the hut officer or hut manager in good time. If you do not need the accommodation, please cancel your booking in good time, normally by the previous evening - otherwise you may be charged a "no-show" fee.
The overnight rate per adult is 20 - 40 CHF depending on the standard of the hut, whether you belong to an Alpine association, etc. Members pay a maximum of 28 CHF. Prices for half-board (overnight accommodation, dinner and breakfast) are 50 - 80 CHF. You can pay with Euros in all huts; some also accept credit cards and REKA cheques.
Due to their remote locations, mountain huts cannot offer the level of comfort which is normal in the lowlands. Only a few (usually newer) huts have smaller bedrooms or showers, and the limited space available means there is not very much privacy in a fully-occupied hut.
There are some rules of etiquette which are posted on the wall, so that many people can share this confined space without any problems. Naturally these rules also apply in unmanned huts.
In SAC huts there are special conditions for SAC members and members of other Alpine associations which have signed the reciprocal rights agreement. SAC members also benefit from reduced rates in many huts belonging to other associations. Reductions will only be given upon presentation of your membership card.
