Überschreitung Elwertätsch - Birghorn - Rote Tätsch - Petersgrat Petersgrat 3194 m

  • Difficulty
    F
  • Ascent
    6 h, 1400 m

Elvertätsch - Birghorn - Rote Tätsch and Petersgrat form the ridge line between Sackhorn in the west and the Tschingelhorn in the east. On the northern side of the ridge a rock and snow flank drops sharply down to the Kanderfirn glacier. On the south, the firn fields and ice of the Tennbach and Tellin glaciers reach close to the summit area. All in all its is an easy high-altitude tour in wonderfully scenic surroundings. The tour is done less in summer than in the winter, when the rounded tops are cut through with ski tracks; with great access from the Lauchernalp ski resort, it is one of the most popular tours in the area. The described crossing is furthermore an ideal variant to reach the Mutthornhütte and is highly recommended.

Route description

Lauchernalp - Gender
From the Lauchernalp (1968 m), follow the mountain path and the ski slope towards Gandegg until just below 2600 m.
Gender - Petersgrat
Just below 2600 m, branch off the level ski slope/ main track and head north, arcing rightwards during the ascent to pass beneath P. 2911. Repeat the manoeuvre, first heading north before bearing slowly rightwards to pass beneath the Sackhorn on the remnants of the Tennbach Glacier. On reaching the main firn/ice of the Tellingletscher, climb upwards to gain the Tennbachlücke. Shortly thereafter, you will leave the glacier and climb over a scree slope (in summer) to the first summit of Elvertätsch (3208 m). From here follow the ridge line to the east in blocky terrain, cross the Birghorn (3243 m), drop down to the Birgsattel and finally reach the Rote Tätsch (3165 m). From here, near horizontal firn/snows lead in an ENE direction towards the highest point of the broad Petersgrat.
