From Morenia/Maste 4 or Felskinn via the Egginerjoch (Normal route) Britanniahütte SAC 3030 m

  • Difficulty
    T3
  • Ascent
    1:45 h, 550 m
  • Descent
    190 m

Normal access to the Britannia hut from the Felskinnbahn. Due to the serious risk of rockfall on the direct route beneath the Hinter Allalin (pisted in the winter months), we recommend the white-red-white trail down over the glacier lake here. In summer 2022, a new and easy mountain trail was marked from Morenia (Maste 4) to the Egginerjoch. It is about half an hour longer than the Felskinn trail, but avoids the glacier passage on Chessjengletscher.

Route description

Morenia (Maste 4) - Egginerjoch
From Morenia (Maste 4) along the white-red marked mountain trail to the Egginerjoch.
Egginerjoch - Gletschersee - Britanniahütte
During periods of thaw, the steep flank beyond the Egginerjoch is often threatened by rockfall coming down off the Hinter Allalin. It is far safer and much more advisable to descend from the Egginerjoch on the white-red-white marked path (direction Plattjen) before turning rightwards through talus towards the glacier lake at 2863 m. From there follow tracks up through the rocks onto to the firn flank below the hut, and finally scurry up a scree shoot to get your dinner (1hr from Felskinn).
Variant: Felskinn - Egginerjoch
The station at Felskinn (2988 m) can be reached via cable car from Saas-Fee. From here, a marked path (pisted in winter) leads over the wide firn slope to the Egginerjoch (2988 m). you arrive a little higher the lowest point near a small wooden hut.
Variant: Egginerjoch - Chessjengletscher - Britanniahütte
From the Egginerjoch, continue over remnants of the Chessjengletscher (note: Rockfall common! Track not always clearly visible) beneath the rocks of Hinter Allalin and onto a scree flank, before climbing steadily up to the hut.
