Aletschhorn 4193 m Route archive

This dominant summit, after Finsteraarhorn, is the second highest peak of the Bernese Alps. A sought after 4000er, it is often climbed, both in the summer season and in the spring with skis. The normal ascent routes, while technically relatively simple, are very long. In bad visibility in the summit area can prove to be a daunting place. The easiest and shortest route leads from the Mittelaletschbiwak over the NE ridge. In summer, the SW ridge starting from the Oberaletsch hut is often preferred, despite being much longer and a bit more difficult than the NE ridge.
