This tour requires absolutely safe conditions. A short stretch of the ascent is negotiated with the skis strapped to the backpack. The reward is a magnificent view. The descent on the north side often has good snow conditions. It has many variants, as the terrain has valleys and knolls.

Route description

Berghaus Malbun - escarpment at Aferisloch

From Berghaus Malbun (1371 m) go south-westward to the trail, which, only slightly ascending for 2.5 km, leads up to the water reservoir at P. 1508, passing Cholplätz and P. 1505 on the way. Now leave the trail and ascend the bowl south-westward to reach Imalschüel Obersäss (1776 m). Now follow the summer trail southward, ascending past Zwingler to the knoll and P. 2042. On the other side go down a few metres and ascend the bowl of Aferisloch (sometimes high risk of avalanche) to reach the escarpment at ca. 2200 m.

The very steep, but short passage (41° with 40 metres of vertical height) is most often negotiated on foot.

Above the escarpment the terrain quickly flattens, and it is easy to reach the highest point by going south-eastward.

Crux: There is an escarpment at ca. 2200 m. This very steep, but short passage (41° with 40 metres vertical height) is usually negotiated on foot.

Remarks: The route described here is undertaken fairly often and is thus considered the normal winter route to Alvier. However, the avalanche risk and the crux (difficult in icy conditions) must be taken into account.
