It is a long, partially steep tour, which is very rewarding, if there is sufficient snow to ski down to the Kerns plain. The strenuous ascent leads to a phenomenal panoramic view.
Route description
Kerns - Arvigrat
From the Kerns, Post (563 m) bus stop go to the church. From the church follow the road to Halten south-eastward and ascend to the St. Antoni chapel (705 m). Cross the Rufibach and ascend the pastures of Oberried south-eastward to reach Schwandimatten (1016 m). Now continue to ascend, initially northward, to Ruedlen (1267 m) via Chlingen. Cross the alp access road to ascend the steep clearing (35° on 60 metres of vertical height) above P. 1374. You reach Gletti. The lower part of the steep pasture can be bypassed by following the summer trail northward through the forest via Eggi (1550 m). Ascend the now open, but still steep terrain eastward to reach the terrace at Arvihütte (1786 m). Continue south-eastward on the north-east face, passing the large wooden cross and the secondary summit (2001 m) to the north. In a few steps you reach the highest point of Arvigrat.
Descent
On the ascent: from the alp access road at Ruedlen various clearings and open pastures offer variants for skiing down to Kerns or the Sand industrial zone. The many fences hamper the descent on the lower part.
