From Le Chargeur (Grande Dixence) (Normal route) Cabane des Dix CAS 2928 m
- 4:30 h, 910 m
- 130 m
The normal approach to Cabane des Dix leads from the mighty dam along the lake; from the end of the lake, briefly across alpine meadows or the “Pas du Chat” variant, then along the moraine to the hut with great views. In combination with the route from / to Arolla, an attractive two-day tour.
From Le Chargeur (2137 m), ascend to the dam, then follow the western shore all the way to the end of the reservoir (P. 2384). From here either stay low and follow the southern shore to P. 2370 then climb up south, or climb diagonally E to the Pas du Chat (2479 m) (slightly faster). Move onto the E-facing flank, cross the stream and join the west side moraine of the Glacier de Cheilon. Follow this to ca. 2790 m then move right (W) off it and climb up behind the Tête Noire (2980 m). Cross an indistinct pass and drop down slightly before bearing eastwards to the hut.
One steep rocky step is made secure with steel cables (T4).
