Climbing Area Morteratsch 1960 m Please select a discipline

The climbing area at Morteratsch is one of the oldest in the Upper Engadine. It has been developed over several generations. The glacier polished rock has rounded holds and very little friction. The steep routes in the main sector require a lot of force and will power to stay on. The upper sectors at Chünetta have much rougher rock and get more sun. The different areas offer a wide range of difficulties; from flat friction slabs to overhanging endurance routes, almost everything can be found. With such ease of access and the breathtaking views of the Upper Engadin mountains, Morteratsch a quite busy place in summer.

Sectors KIBE and Chünetta are ideal spots to introduce children and beginners to outdoor climbing. The sector "Platttenschuss" is also quite well bolted, though sometimes the first bolt is a bit high 'off the deck' for beginners. Some routes are top-rope only. Most have been re-equipped... but be wary of the odd M8 bolt with aluminium hangers!
