Characteristic horn above Val da Camp

On Corn da Mürasciola the sensation of being on a summit is especially pronounced. To the north-east there is a precipice, through which a number of climbing routes lead, to the south steep grassy slopes fall down to Lagh da Mürasciola. In between a narrow ridge enables hikers to reach the summit. And deep down the lakes Lagh da Saoseo and Lagh da Val Viola sparkle, which should be visited at all costs if you travel to Val da Camp.

Route description

Rifugio Saoseo – Val Mera
From Rifugio Saoseo follow the road to Camp, where it ends (bus to this point). Follow the mountain hiking trail (marked white-red-white) through Val Mera up to Plan da Val Mera (ca. 2370 m), a wonderful high plain, where cows graze. After the small wooden bridge follow the trail another ca. 150 m past the first escarpment.
Val Mera – Corn da Mürasciola
Leave the trail where it flattens out and ascend westward to the next high plain with small lakes (ca. 2515 m). Towards the south-west you see a conspicuous couloir, through which the ascent continues. In the couloir there are faint paths. At the top the couloir ends in an impressive scree depression. Traverse the depression southward to reach the south-western rim of the ridge. Now follow the ridge south-eastward over grass and rubble. At P. 2793 green and white rock zones mingle to paint a colourful picture of the landscape. Continue on the now large ridge to a knoll at ca. 2760 m. This point, where three ridges merge, is considered a secondary summit of Corn da Mürasciola, which in winter is visited by ski tourists. The adjacent narrow west ridge leading to the main summit, however, is too precarious for them. The grassy crest with outcrops is rather exposed. Climb it directly or bypass the difficulties on the south face. Despite some faint paths in the very steep face and on the narrow ridge great caution is advised.
Corn da Mürasciola – Valeni – Rif. Saoseo
Descend on the same route to the secondary summit. Then continue descending on the south ridge, a grassy crest with faint paths, and hike eastward to Lagh da Mürasciola. East of the lakes there are faint paths again, some well visible, others hardly, which lead eastward on the grassy slopes. At a bifurcation in the forest at ca. 2125 m choose the left trail to Valeni. From Valeni follow the dirt road to reach the paved road and hike back to Rifugio Saoseo in a few minutes.

Additional information

Departure and arrival point
Difficulty / Material

There are some block fields and at the end an exposed summit ridge with a few scrambling passages. There are no paths to speak of, but with good visibility the orientation is unproblematic.

Neighbor summit

Piz Ursera (3031 m)

Hike on the main route to Corn da Mürasciola until the little lakes at ca. 2515 m. Now keep more to the right to P. 2587 and to Forcula da Cardan. Follow the ridge northward to the summit, overcoming a few embossments on the way. There are different rock formations and rock qualities as well as rubble. Experience in this kind of terrain is helpful. Rifugio Saoseo – Piz Ursera 3½ h, Piz Ursera – Rifugio Saoseo 2½ h, T4+.
