At first, the route on the left bank of the Dranse d’Entremont is on the alp access road through the forest, then on wide, gentle slopes. This is a beautiful classic tour, which offers magnificent skiing in powder as well as in spring snow.

Route description

Bourg-Saint-Pierre - Les Arpalles - Crêta de Velle

From the entrance to the village of Bourg-Saint-Pierre (1632 m), go down to the Pont de Tsarevesse (1517 m) and cross the Dranse d’Entremont. Follow the road to the hairpin bend (1692 m). Further up in the forest turn south on the trail which crosses the Torrent des Arpalles on a bridge. From here ascend more or less directly the steep slopes up to the chalets of Les Arpalles (1892 m), then to those of Champ Long (2132 m). Continue flat on the valley floor until you can switch to the other side of the creek bed. Ascend the wide SE slopes up to the ridge on the south of Crêta de Velle and follow this ridge to the summit.
