Since the opening of the Vereina tunnel, traffic across Flüelapass has decreased considerably. All the more interesting is a tour to the Flüela Wisshorn summit, as it shows the beauty of the landscape. Thanks to the high elevation of the starting point the summit is easy to reach. Attention: In winter 2019, a large landslide occurred on the west flank of the Flüela Wisshorn, which did not directly affect the summer route to the Winterlücke. In recent years, however, high temperatures in summer have led to increased rockfalls on the normal route (north-west ridge) due to thawing permafrost.

Route description

Wägerhus - Winterlücke

From the Wägerhus bus station follow the marked hiking trail to Winterlücke.

Winterlücke - Flüela Wisshorn

The summit is accessed on the north-west ridge. Cairns show the way. 80 metres below the secondary summit traverse a slab on the northern side to reach this summit on scree and blocks. From there descend a few metres to a breach. Bypassing a huge boulder to the north, go to the narrow ridge. Once more sidestepping from the ridge line, you reach the main summit.

Variant: descent via Jöriseen

The tour can be enhanced by visiting Jöriseen. In this case the descent is across Jöriflüelafurgge. After the small lake in Müllersch Tälli you get back to the ascent route. 250 metres of vertical height up and down; add 1½ h, T3.
