It is an impressive ski tour to a summit that is almost 3000 metres high. Thanks to the aerial cableway this high alpine tour can be made in one day. High alpine tour? Yes, right below the summit is what remains of a glacier called "Lang Firn". How long it will be there remains to be seen.
Route description
Summit station – Gemsfairenstock
From the summit station of the aerial cableway (ca. 2000 m) ascend to Fisetenpass (2033 m) and then follow the ridge south-westward via Rund Loch (2287 m) to reach the Ober Sulzbalm bowl. A short escarpment (ca. 38°) needs to be overcome on the summer hiking trail (in bad snow conditions a short stretch needs to be negotiated on foot). Continue southward to Lang Firn. Ascend the glacier to reach the western ridge approximately 100 metres west of the summit. Follow the ridge to the highest point.
Descent
On the ascent: if there is snow on Urnerboden, you can ski down as far as the Urnerboden Sonne bus stop, or from P. 1524 follow the road back to the bottom station of the aerial cableway. Please respect the game reserve to the west of the itinerary below the cableway!
