If the snow conditions are good, this pleasurable ski tour with a short climbing stint on the summit structure is often undertaken. Depending on the conditions, the last metres may require ice axe and crampons. The wide north-facing slopes offer powder snow for a long time, but only if the avalanche risk is low. If it is critical, Eggberg may be an alternative target.
Route description
St. Antönien Litzirüti - Engi- ski depot
South of Rütiwald ascend in pastures to P. 1591, Engi and Matten (parking lot). Now cross the bridge to reach Dörfji, from where you have a pretty view to the mighty Schlangenstein. Now go southward across a bridge again (P. 1661) to ascend on the slopes of Jenazer Gafia to Säss (1948 m). Continue southward past Haupt (2104 m) and Ammaflue on their western side to reach the ridge between Geisstschuggen (2311 m) and Hasenflüeli (big cairn, ca. 2320 m).
St. Antönien Litzirüti - Engi
From St. Antönien Litzirüti (1460 m) initially follow the road, then the Gafierbach to reach Matten.
Ski depot - summit
The rocky summit can be reached from the south-west by climbing a short, steep gully.
Descent
On the ascent. The wide powder-snow slopes allow a number of variants.
