This is a short ski tour in one of the remotest corners of the Zürcher Oberland. Using the ski lift makes it a rewarding target for short days in high winter if there is enough snow. The dark forests along the route provide helpful landmarks in case of snow fall or bad visibility.
Route description
Fischenthal – Tannen
From the Fischenthal railway station (741 m) follow the railway lines southward to ascend the knoll of P. 812. Now ascend the ridge eastward to Langenberg and follow the road to Tannen.
Ski lift Steg – Tannen
From the Steg ski lift traverse to Hasenböl, and slightly descending you reach Tannen. This variant saves 1/2 h and reduces the vertical height to 210 m.
Tannen – Hüttchopf
Follow the entire ridge south-eastward to reach Hüttchopf.
Descent
It is on the ascent and the uppermost part of the ridge is often wind-swept. At first there are a number of traverses until you reach the beautiful slopes further down. It may be worthwhile to re-ascend to Hasenböl. The north ridge at the ski lift offers pretty skiing slopes, but when the lift is in operation, they are quickly full of tracks.
