Access to the Mattalp is possible via the mountain trail Alpnachstad-Pilatus, either in ascent from Ämsigen or in descent from Kulm.
Route description
Ämsigen, top station - Mattalp
From Ämsigen, follow the marked trail direction Pilatus Kulm.
Variant: Pilatus Kulm - Mattalp
Descend from Kulm on the marked trail via Chilchsteine, direction Alpnachstad, until Alp Matt at 450 Hm (ca. 45 Min.).
Mattalp - Mattalpplatte - Galtigengrat
The foot of the Mattalpplatte (largest wall section, Sector A) can be reached in a few steps from the mountain trail Ämsigen - Pilatus Kulm. From there, climb diagonally to the right above sector B past the end of the obvious ledge. Continue straight up in sparsely wooded terrain to join the ridge. Time from the foot of the Mattalpplatte to the ridge: roughly 15 min.
Alternatively you can climb one of the routes R6 - R8 and continue on R13 Waldmandli to reach the start of the Galtigengrat.
