There is only one approach, but at the end of this, shortly before the start of the ferrata, the first highlight is waiting: a grotto where the warm thermal water comes to the light. The Pasarelle à Farinet suspension bridge should also not be missed. For the descent from there, there are various attractive options through the vineyards.
Route description
Approach
From the bus stop at the bridge (483 m) cross the Salentse stream (between the villages of Saillon and Leytron) and follow tracks up along the righthand side. This leads to the Salentse Gorge and, after crossing the stream on a wooden bridge to the meager remains of the old baths. The Farinet plaque and an overview board hangs on the right wall of the gorge (approx. 540 m)... and so it begins!
Descent
From either of the three exits from the via ferrata head to the Passarelle à Farinet suspension bridge, now there are three options: 1) As shown on the map: From the western end of the bridge follow the hiking trail in 50 minutes, mostly through vineyards down to Saillon (510 m). Bus stops on the main street below.
2) From the bridge's north-east end, follow the road to the hamlet of Les Places (842 m) then take the access road to the Les Places bus stop (approx. 840 m) on the Ovronnaz - Leytron bus route; 15 minutes.
3) To Les Places, then on the hiking trail down to Montagnon (765 m), restaurant and bus stop; 20 min.
