With over 1000 rungs and other elements, this three-part, 900-meter-long "sport" via ferrata through the Gorges de la Salentse offers an advenurous and sustained athletic challenge. The route leads from the memorial plaque for the forger Joseph-Samuel Farinet up to the suspension bridge Passerelle à Farinet. The third part is one of the most difficult via ferratas in Switzerland. But don't worry, you can warm up slowly and build up to it: the beginning (part 1) is moderately difficult, the middle section (part 2) is a bit more challenging, and the third section is intense. If you already find one of the first sections difficult there are some alternative early exit options.

Route description

Via Farinetta Section 2
After the first section, briefly follow the water pipe along the gorge. Cross a vertical wall and come to a tunnel through which the water used to flow. Climb through blasted rock up to a short ladder, 75 metres vertically below the suspension bridge Passerelle à Farinet. In partially overhanging terrain, the via ferrata first runs diagonally to the right, then pretty much straight up. There are platforms now and then to rest on and take the weight off your arms. Climb past the junction of the very difficult third part when it is possible to leave the Via Farinetta to the right above the white Dove of Peace attached to the wall of the gorge; 840 m: an easy path leads down to the Passerelle à Farinet (816 m) built in 2001: a recommended detour to get another great perspective of the Gorges de la Salentse.

Additional information

Character

The first part up to the Bisse à Barman is rated K3 +; it has two bridges and a few short crux sections. The second part is much more difficult, more exposed and requires good technique and strength in the arms (K4 +); After a dizzying crossing of the vertical wall of the gorge, follow an old water pipe through the tunnel, then climb a high wall with slightly overhanging passages to the rim of the gorge. The third section is much more difficult (K6-) and requires muscles and courage; the overhangs force the body out into space; the rungs are far apart.
