Pizol 2844 m Ski tour
A hundred years ago, climbing Pizol on skis was one of the most popular tours in Switzerland. It is still a very rewarding destination and the development of the Wangs and Bad Ragaz ski areas in the 1950s cut the original very long tour to a half day trip. There are various descents (off and on marked ski runs). Be aware of the avalanche risk on Wildseeluggen and the uppermost part of the Pizolgletscher. The formerly popular descents towards Weisstannen now go through the Graue Hörner game reserve and are therefore prohibited routes. Skiing down to Tersol is permitted, but the almost impassable stretch above Gigerwald puts skiers off. Descending to Zanai and Valens requires perfect conditions and a good knowledge of the escarpment below 1800 m.
