On this tour one gets to know Valle di Campo, a valley that is half in Swiss and half in Italian territory. While the border usually follows ridges, summits or rivers, here it cuts a valley in half. The ascent described here is the easiest. It is ideal to get to know this region and it makes an interesting ski tour. The summit offers a splendid view.
Route description
Cimalmotto - Pizzo dei Croselli
From Cimalmotto (1405 m) follow the road to Piano della Stufà (1361 m). Continue in the rather flat Valle di Campo until P. 1401, where the border between Switzerland and Italy is. Continue in Italian territory until the point where the Rio della Stufà merges with the Rio Colobiasca. 100 m beyond this point, leave the valley floor to ascend north-westward on the summer trail through the forest to reach Corte Nuova (1696 m) and later Alpe Stufà (1879 m). Continue to ascend the open slopes north-westward and pass the ridge that comes down from Pizzo dei Croselli on the right-hand side (E). Passing near Alpe Venanzio (2199 m), you reach Alpe Corona (ca. 2300 m). Now ascend directly the east-facing slope to reach the N summit of Pizzo dei Croselli (P. 2690): initially it is a steep slope or rather a couloir (32° - 34°), then it is a less steep, wide face. You can also ascend the south-east ridge to Passo del Groppo (2513 m), from where you follow the ridge to the summit.
