When the Furka Pass is open, this is the shortest approach to the Trift hut. It can be made more interesting by climbing the Tieralplistock, the Diechterhorn or the Triftstöcklis on route.
Route description
Hotel Belvédère (Furkapass) - Trifthütte SAC
From the Hotel Belvédère (2271 m) pass the madness that is the ice grotto and follow the curve of the Rhone glacier's eastern edge round to the north. A complex serac zone at approx. 2700 m is bypassed by steering NE onto snow covered rocks which lead up to P. 2769 via a short, steeper step. Bear north once more onto the glacier, then NW to cross the broad Grossfirn (large glacial bowl) and climb up to the Undri Triftlimi (pass, 3081 m). From the pass drop down northwards then, keeping to the glaciers right hand (eastern) edge, descend the Triftgletscher via the Obere and Undre Triftchessel to P. 2436 beneath the hut. Climb up leftwards onto the moraine ridge and continue to the hut at 2520 m.
