Avalanche danger at Groppi. Despite the military presence, the hut trail is always feasible in early summer; but the descent through the valley south of Egge is partly in the target area - so watch out for them bullets!

Route description

Iffigenalp - Wildhornhütte

From Iffigenalp, follow the summer path along the valley floor to Groppi. Ascend in a south-west direction over the broad rib of Egge, and follow it over to the outlet of Iffigsee (2065 m). Bypass the lake to the north - or cross it directly IF the ice sheet is thick enough - then continue south-west along the valley floor to the Wildhornhütte.

Variant 1: Valley south of Egge

From Groppi, with good, safe snow conditions, it is also possible to ascend the valley south of Egge to reach the Iffigsee. (Also a nice option for the descent).

Variant: from Lenk or Hubelmatte

From Lenk or Hubelmatte follow the road (some shortcuts cut out a few hairpins) to Iffigenalp. 5 hours from Lenk (1240 m), 4 hours from Färich / Pöschenried (1090 m), 2½ hours

Access by car in spring, as soon as the road is open: alternating traffic from Hubelmatte uphill: x.30 to x.45 hrs, downhill: x.00 to x.15 hrs.

Regular bus in the summer season or Alpentaxi from Lenk: 4x4 taxi (Tel. +41 33 733 33 33)

Remarks: 5 hours from Lenk (1240 m), 4 hours from Färich / Pöschenried (1090 m), 2½ hours from the Iffigenalp (720 m ascent).

The road to Iffigenalp is usually open to the public from mid-April (one-way traffic).
