This is a very popular tour with skiers and snowshoe hikers and is multifaceted.
Route description
Sattel – Wildspitz
From the Sattel-Ägeri (ca. 772 m) railway station go across the tracks to reach the hamlet of Riedmatt. Here turn left and go to the end of Riedmattstrasse. In pastures ascend westward, then turn gradually northward to reach the stable at P. 972. Now ascend westward to the upper stable and follow the rather steep summer trail through the forest to reach the alp access road. After 100 m leave the road to ascend north-westward the long slope up to Halsegg (1320 m). From there follow the ridge south-westward to the foot of Gwandelenflue. Along the escarpment follow the summer trail eastward to reach a narrow breach and the ridge. On the ridge ascend westward to P. 1543. Continue south-westward more or less horizontally on the ridge past the highest point (1570 m) of Langmatt, then descend to P. 1520, and on the south-east ridge you reach Wildspitz.
Descent
On the ascent; from Halsegg you can ski down more directly to the west of the ascent route via Eigenstall – Peterschwändi to Riedmatt. More interesting is the descent to Steinerberg or the traverse to Gnipen and the descents to Walchwil or Goldau, if the snow conditions are good.
