The normal approach to the Windegg hut from the top station of the Triftbahn is particularly suitable for families. The two variants, the suspension bridge and Via Wasser are far from boring. If the Triftbahn (cableway) is fully booked (reservation recommended in season), the approach from the valley is a bit more taxing. But following the line of the Trifwasser, it is an intersting route.

Route description

Trift Bergstation - Bosslis Stein - Windegghütte

From the mountain station of the Triftbahn (1357 m) follow a good path to the junction "Bosslis Stein" (information board). There are three ways to get to the Windegghütte from here. The first - the original hut path, turns right (west) and leads steeply up to the Windegg hut.

Variant 1: Familly-friendly path to Windegghütte

Turn left past the Bossli's Stein. After about 20 minutes, the family-friendly path turns right and rises less steeply to the hut.

Variant 2: via the suspension bridge to the Windegghütte

Probably the most spectacular way to the hut is via the suspension bridge. Go left past Bosslis Stein towards the hanging rope bridge. Continue left to visit the bridge and sample its views. Then climb back west to reach the Windegghütte via a rocky ridge (some rock steps up to T3) secured with ropes and chains.

Variant 3: from the valley (without cablecar)

Here again two variants are possible. We describe the shorter version, west of the Triftwater here: From the valley station of the Triftbahn follow the route to Chäppeli, then a nice footpath down to the bridge over the Triftbach. The scenic hike then leads through forest and clearings, up through cliffs to Waldboden, then along the exposed west bank of the Triftwasser, until it meets the path from the Triftbahn mountain station at P.1428. A good one and a half hours and approx. 500 m additional ascent. The route east of the gorge via "Im Hori" is around half an hour longer.
