La Muongia 3414 m Route archive

La Muongia (from the Romansh word muongia meaning "nun") is only a modest rocky peak, but it supports a mighty snow shoulder and reaches a respectable height of over 3400m. La Muongia, like Il Chapütschin, belongs to the Sella Group. These two peaks form the western end of the Sella main ridge, which stretches to the Fuorcla da la Sella to the east. The Sella Group lies somewhat in the shadow of the neighbouring Bernina group, but also offers many beautiful walks and alpine tours. The Sella Group is very popular as a ski tour area. In addition, the Passo Sella is the gateway to the Bernina S-side. From the Chamanna Coaz hut there are several little difficult routes, which are in good conditions suitable as beginner tours.

First ascent by an English rope team led by J. B.Walther 1867. On 4 October 1878 Emil Burckhardt and Christian Grass found a cairn at the summit.
