Monte Leone 3554 m Route archive

Just west of the Simplon Pass stands the heavyweight of the Lepontine Alps. Monte Leone is one of the few reference points in Vallais that only carries an Italian name. Though it stands right next to Simplon Pass, it is not visible from the road and therefore not a familiar spectacle. Nevertheless, it is an attractive border summit with a comprehensive panoramic view. The north wall is impressive and massive, with dimensions characteristic of much higher mountains.
