Via ferrata-like shortcut through the rocks, only suitable for sure-footed folk. Difficult to climb with a heavy backpack, the passages require great caution on the descent - the same applies when it is wet! The normal hut approach with its delightful “detour” via Le Chiesso is more suitable for the descent.
Route description
Zinal - bridge at P. 1730
From Zinal (1675 m) follow the paved road southwards to the bridge at P. 1674 over the La Navisence river. On the left (W) bank, pass the sports field and continue to the bridge at 1730 m, to cross for the second time.
Bridge over the Naviscence river (P. 1730) - Pas du Chasseur - P. 2154
After crossing the Naviscence river (P. 1730), head first leisurely along the stream in the forest. Then the path makes a sharp left (E) and climbs more steeply up towards Côte de la Meya. At P. 1892 turn right towards a striking rock band. There climb a very steep and challenging path with fixed chains and ropes, then continue comfortably up through the forest to a meadow, left (N) of P. 2154.
P. 2154 - Lac d'Arpitetta - Cabane d'Arpitetta
From P. 2154, climb diagonally north around the vegetated moraine, then turn sharply right at around 2200 m (SE) towards Lac d’Arpitetta (approx. 2230 m). Cross the grazing pastures of L’Arpitetta, contour onto the S-facing flank, then ascend gradually to Les Leisses in small zigzags. Cross onto a scree flank and over two small glacial streams at P. 2593, then make the final leisurely ascent up to the hut (2786 m), 2½ hours.
