Gross Spannort 3198 m Alpine climbing
The Gross Spannort is, especially from Engelberg, a distinctive tower of rock, seen high above the Spannortgletscher and the Glatt Firn. The Glatt Firn (also glacier), which stretches far into the Erstfeld Valley, forms the second-largest glacial plateau in the canton of Uri, and is framed by the Gross Spannort, Krönten and Zwächten. Ascents of Gross Spannort take place both in summer and in winter.
