Russo 860 m Climbing
Situated close to the small village of Russo, this marvel of rock and cliffs offers a choice of sustained aesthetic lines. The first routes date back to the late 1980s when, during a brief visit to the valley, Philippe Steulet (who died on the Eiger on March 29, 2002) equipped two routes of high difficulty that still attest to his great sports skills. In 1996 Cugini visited the crag with friend Roberto Grizzi, setting up some short routes. But only in 2002 did they discover the true potential of the place. The work began in the woods: with the help of willing friends, they worked for days to free the base of the wall from plants and brushwood that prevented access. Thus the ancient grassy terraces, once a source of livelihood, today of fun and relaxation, have been brought into the light.
