Long hut approach that leads from the lush green Tierfehd to the high alpine glacier world around the Planura Hut SAC. With the alpine taxi to Hintersand, the walking time can be shortened by about one and a half hours.

Route description

Tierfed - Vorder Sand - Hinter Sand - Ober Sand

From Tierfed follow the mountain road southwards and cross the famous Panten Bridge to Hinter Sand (1300 m). From here a new route: bypass the rockfall zone beneath Ochsenstock by crossing north of the Oberstafelbach stream and later returning south of the stream (ca. 1430 m) to join the original zigzag path with its many bends which leads up to Ober Sand.

Ober Sand - Sandpassweidli - Planurahütte

Continue along the marked hiking path into the valley to Sandpassweidli. After this it climbs more steeply via increasingly rocky terrain; finally over snow fields to gain the hut (2940 m).

From Linthal to Tierfed, also possible by taxi or car.

The stretch from Linthal railway station/ Tierfehd car park to Hintersand can be covered with the Alpine Taxi Alpentaxi Vollenweider 079 /770 34 86 alpentaxi@taxivollenweider.ch. Time saving about 1:30 hrs.

Linthal, Bahnhof (647 m)

From Linthal to Tierfehd on foot: plus about 1:30 hrs.

Various: Dinosaur tracks!
Near the approach path from Obersand to the Planura hut at an altitude of approx. 2400 m above sea level. (Coord. 711 700/186 900) Josef Oehler found dinosaur tracks in 2000, which are among the oldest in Switzerland.
