This is a pretty, sunny and easy ski tour with Engstlenalp, quiet in winter, as the starting point. It is best to get there from the Engelberg skiing area across Jochpass. From the summit you can enjoy the view down to the crowds on the ski runs, which you left behind two hours before. The access to Engstlenalp from Melchsee Frutt is very flat and has 150 metres of vertical height more than the ascent described here.

Route description

From Engstlenalp

From the Engstlenalp hotel (1835 m) ascend north-eastward to the entry of the Schaftal valley. The safest and prettiest ascent is on the southern side of the valley. Ascend to the summit ridge, on which you reach the summit.

Descent

On the ascent; to re-ascend to Jochpass you can use a ski lift.

Im Winter am leichtesten über den Jochpass (Sessellift von Engelberg) erreichbar. Vom Jochpass mit der Sesselbahn hinunter nach Engstlensee und flach westwärts zur Engstlenalp (wenn möglich auf dem Engstlensee, zum Schutz vor dem Lawinenhang auf der Nordseite des Sees).
