Selun is a long, gently ascending ridge, with no difficulties for ski tourists or snowshoe hikers. Since it is exposed, it is often wind-swept. Before reaching ideal terrain for skiing, tourists must negotiate the long steep ascent (400 metres vertical height) on a road through a thick, steep forest.
Route description
Starkenbach bus stop - Selun
From the Starkenbach bus stop (893 m) ascend southward on open slopes to reach P. 1048 below the aerial cableway (closed in winter). Continue southward ascending through the pastures of Hofstatt to reach the edge of the forest (P. 1221). Now follow the road on a sometimes very steep slope through the Selun forest to reach the summit station of the Selun aerial cableway (1578 m). Now ascend south-eastward the bowl of Vorderselun to reach the north ridge of Selun, which you follow to the summit.

The crux of this tour is the steep and narrow alp access road from Starkenbach above 1200 m through the Selun forest. On the way down, advanced skiing skills (stem turns in narrow terrain) are required.
- Remarks

Beware of the cornices (some are huge) on the eastern rim of the ridge and on the summit! Beware also of the karst holes between the Strichboden and the summit slope!
Please do not leave the road (game and forest protection).
