    PD
  • Ascent
    2:30–3 h, 510 m
  • Descent
    920 m
  • Exposure

This is a lovely traverse of a threethousander with only a short ascent. Thanks to the aerial cableway from Crans-Montana to Pointe de la Plaine Morte the tour begins with a 150 m descent, then follows a cross-country-like traverse of Plaine Morte to finish with a 500 m summit slope to the Lenk summit of the Wildstrubel range. You can ski down to the Crans-Montana skiing area (with a re-ascent), but it is more interesting to ski down to Lämmerenhütte, if the conditions are good. Other ascents go to Lenk or Engstligenalp.

Route description

Plaine Morte summit station – Wildstrubel
From the summit station of the aerial cableway ski down to Glacier de la Plaine Morte. Traverse the extended glacier eastward (you may use the cross-country ski run). Gradually, but not too early (due to the crevasses of Rezligletscher), turn left (north-eastward) to reach the foot of the wide south-west ridge. Ascend the south face to reach the ridge above the rocks of P. 3021. If the snow cornice on the ridge is too big, traverse to the west face already above P. 2910 and ascend the ridge steeply to the ridge above P. 3021. Follow the ridge to the summit cross.
Descent to Lämmerenhütte
From the Wildstrubel west summit ski down the glacier north-eastward and past the rocky promontory of P. 2999 to reach the glacier forefield and the summer trail. On the summer trail go north-eastward slightly uphill to Lämmerenhütte.
