Hoch-Ybrig off the ski runs and lifts

The region around Unteriberg is best known under the name Hoch-Ybrig. The skiing industry with its installations has occupied and in part blemished the majority of the gently ascending pastures. However, the two summits Forstberg and Druesberg have so far escaped the ballyhoo. Alpine hikers even profit from the installations. From Chli Stärnen, summit station of a chairlift, the two summits can be traversed on interesting itineraries offering a lot of splendid views.

Route description

Chli Stärnen - outcrop Forstberg

The white-blue-white marked route begins at the summit station of the Sternen chairlift and at first leads up to the ridge and to Gross Sternen. From there hike to Tisch, occasionally on a slippery or narrow trail, but always with a splendid view. Continue to P. 2010 and down into the depression. Now the grass ends and scree and rubble begin.

Outcrop Forstberg - Forstberg summit

The rock gets more compact. Helped by chains, scramble over the crux of the tour, a rocky outcrop, to reach P. 2033 through a gully. Once past that passage, you arrive at the summit cross of Forstberg in pastures and without any difficulty.

Forstberg - Druesberg

On a faint path on brittle rock descend north-eastward below a prominent rock formation to the saddle between Forstberg and Druesberg. On the subsequent ascent in the pasture you need to overcome, helped by chains, a 15 m high schrofen belt. Now the good trail makes a curve to the left to reach the Druesberg summit.

Druesberg - Druesberghütte

On the same route go back to the saddle between Forstberg and Druesberg. Turn downvalley to reach P. 1911 on an unproblematic talus. Now hike northward in pastures to Druesberghütte (1582 m).

Druesberghütte - Gruebi

From Druesberghütte follow the trail zigzagging in the meadows to Gruebi, where at the signpost in front of the little hut the Leiterenweg branches off towards Weglosen.

Gruebi - Weglosen

The trail to the ladders has been upgraded by wooden stairs and steel cables. It leads through the impressive rocky landscape. Occasionally it is rather steep and at the end it leads out on a balcony. From there, an 8 m high, almost vertical metallic ladder goes down to the ditch of a creek, which is negotiated with the help of a chain. Again on wooden stairs hike down through the steep forest via P. 1117 to Weglosen.

Forstberg – Druesberg 45 min.

Druesberg – Weglosen 2 h 15 min.

Difficulty / Material: The most challenging stretch is right before Forstberg, where chains lead up to P. 2033. After Forstberg too, on the descent to the saddle between Forstberg and Druesberg, you will find four rather steep scrambling passages.

The short passage equipped with chains on Druesberg is less demanding.

The Leiterenweg to Weglosen is generally well equipped; the ditch of the creek can be negotiated either along the chains or with the help of ladders.
