Route description

From the top cable car station follow the footpath up beside the chairlift through Val Magriel. After Gendusas, follow the next chair lift a short way before turning right (northeast) over meadows and scree to zigzag up through rock bands and gain the level of Lai Alv.

Approach for Sectors A and B

Shortly after Gendusas, turn left (west) under the chairlift. For Sector A, bear right at the top of the slope over screes to the base of the wall at approx. 2300 m. For Sector B, La Traversa, continue on the main path south through a cliff band and later take the right-hand fork northeast to reach the crag. For Sector A: From Gendusas: 20 minutes, from Caischavedra: 1 hour 15 minutes For Sector B: From Gendusas: 30 minutes, from Caischavedra: 1 hour 30 minutes

Approach for Sectors C and D

From Lai Alv (ca. 2486 m) follow the track southwards. At the first bridge, continue straight and turn left for Sector C, Il Cascadou - or - cross the bridge and turn right for Sector D, Mickey Mouse. Approach to both sectors. From Lai Alv: 5 min., From Caischavedra: 2 hrs.

Approach to Sectors E and F

From Lai Alv (ca. 2486 m) follow the track northwards. Just where it turns right to end by a small lake, cut left into a scree lined hollow. Sector E, La Pista is found up and right of the hollow at about 2580 m. Sector F, Preit SE Gendusas, is found further up on cliffs to the left, shortly before the rock island at P. 2631. Approach Sector E, La Pista: From Lai Alv: 20 min. From Caischavedra: 2hrs20min. Approach Sector F: from Pez Ault ski lift: 5 min (in winter). From Caischavedra: 2hrs15min.

Approach G and H

From Lai Alv (about 2486 m) follow the track north to where it ends by a small lake. Circle the lake and climb along a horizontal ledge (ca. 2530 m) for around 600 metres. Sector G, La Siesta is on the left at approx. 2500 m. Sector H, Il Crap da Grimassas, is roughly 200 m further north at approx. 2540 m. For Sector G: From Lai Alv: 15 min., From Caischavedra: 2 hrs. 15 min. For Sector H: From Lai Alv: 30 min., From Caischavedra: 2 hr. 30 min

Approach for Sector J

From Lai Alv (about 2486 m) follow the track northwards. Shortly before this ends at a lake, go up the hollow on the left. Continue northwards past the rock island (P. 2631), until just shy of the top chairlift station. From about 2758 m, an east-facing couloir leads down to Sector J, Crap Baselgia, starting at 2620 m.

Departure point

Time: Access is ironically easier in winter, as you can simply stop by with your skis. In summer though, the cable car only goes up to Caischavedra at 1862 m. From there you'll have to walk a good 1 1/2 hrs to the climbing, both for Lai Alv and Traversa. For the areas Piz Gendusas and Crap (not a typo) Baselgia you'll need more than 2 hours for the approach. For groups and individuals alike, in the summer time, it is possible to book one of the two chairlifts (Gendusas or Lai Alv) but this must be done at least one day before a planned visit. Check for availability well in advance, via the Disentis Mountain Railway's website (http://www.disentis3000.ch).
