- 2:30 h, 700 m
The path from the cable car station at Mettmen to Leglerhütte leads through the oldest game reserve in Europe. It is almost impossible not to see chamois and marmots here. With a little luck you will see eagles and a few ibex too. The path is easy and accessible for children. Approximately in the middle of the ascent you pass the Kärpfbrücke. If the water level is not too high, you can also walk along the stream under the bridge.
Route description
Mettmen (Stausee Garichti) - Leglerhütte
From the reservoir 'Stausee Garichti', follow the path up-valley past Niderenalp, turn right at Hübschböden and climb up to Sunnenbergfurggele (small pass). Continue up past some boulders, then traverse round and drop slightly down to reach the Leglerhütte.
Variant: from Schwanden without the cable car.
From Schwanden (528 m) follow the road through the Niderental (valley) to Kies (possible by bus from Schwanden SBB; 1:30 hrs on foot), then continue steeply up to Mettmen, also 1:30 hrs.
