Secluded mountainous landscape at the foot of Weissmies
This mountain hiking tour leads through steep, stony and astonishingly secluded landscapes up to the local mountain of Simplon Dorf. The summit pays off the tiresome ascent on scree and rubble with an extended view. The grassy summit lends itself to relaxing and sun bathing.
Route description
Simplon – Wenghorn
From the uppermost house of Simplon Dorf ascend across the pasture and the hedge with the overgrown path towards the forest. In the forest hike up on a sparsely marked mountain hiking trail along Lowigrabu. After a passage round some rocky ledges one finds an alp trail. On the flat clearing east of Bodme follow the edge of the larch wood to come across a faint path. Marked with some paint or cairns every now and then it leads through the forest and then along the forest edge up a steep slope. At ca. 2020 m the path traverses southward in only gently inclined pastures full of scree and crosses creeks until Schattigi Halte. Ascend pathless on this steep, sparsely vegetated scree slope into a cirque full of rocks of all sizes. The lake Blaus Seewji is all but dried up. On partly unstable blocks ascend towards the north-east ridge of Wenghorn, which is reached around P. 2546. The more you ascend, the more unstable the ground is. On grass and scree you reach the invitingly sunny summit of Wenghorn.
Wenghorn – Bielti
From Wenghorn descend southward in the fall line on the very steep grass slope interspersed with rocks. At ca. 2400 m traverse to the left (east) on rubble and scree to reach P. 2385 on a grassy ridge. On this ridge descend to the cross on the edge of a cliff. Here you come across the marked mountain hiking trail leading to Laggin-Biwak and follow it down towards Simplon Dorf. After about 250 m a faint path hardly visible among the alpine roses branches off zigzagging down to Alp Homatta. Here and there the path disappears in the high grass or the alpine roses. At Homatta the faint path resurfaces and leads down to Biel and Bielti.
Bielti – Gabi
From Bielti a wide trail leads to the pass road across Simplon. At Wäxel take the lower trail down to a gallery, go across the vegetated roof of the gallery, then pass under the road and come back on a path leading along Laggina to Gabi.
Variant back to Simplon Dorf
At the hardly visible bifurcation to Homatta stay on the upper trail and hike on to the cross at Antonius. Zigzag down along ledges, through a larch wood and in pastures to Simplon Dorf. Wenghorn – Antonius – Bärufel – Obri Weng – Simplon Dorf 3 h.

There is a sparsely marked path until Schattigi Halte. Schattigi Halte is very steep and pathless. After that grassy slopes and vast stone runs lead up to the summit. The descent is also pathless on the very steep south slope. The descent from the cross via Homatta to Biel is not easy to find despite the markings.
